In the last quarter of 2020, the navigation and maps category saw varying trends among the top iOS applications in France. Here's a snapshot of how five key players performed according to data from Sensor Tower.
Google Maps maintained a strong user base, with weekly active users hovering around the 6.7M mark, peaking at 6.8M in the last week of December. Downloads showed an upward trend in the quarter, starting at 50K and reaching 65K by the year's end.
Waze Navigation & Live Traffic also experienced a positive trajectory. Although weekly active users dipped to 2.6M at the start of November, the app recovered to 3.6M by the end of December. Downloads mirrored this recovery, increasing from 34K in late September to 55K in the final week of 2020.
Google Earth saw a steady number of downloads throughout the quarter, with figures generally ranging from 13K to 16K. Active users fluctuated slightly but ended on a high note, with close to 100K users in the last week of December.
Citymapper: All Live Transit had a more turbulent quarter. Downloads started at 7.6K and dropped to around 2.4K in early November, but they climbed back up to approximately 5K by the end of December. Weekly active users saw a decline from 195K to 130K in early November, before rebounding to 154K by the close of the year.
Finally, Mappy - GPS, trafic & prix, a local French app, maintained a stable active user base, starting and ending the quarter with around 23K weekly active users. Downloads saw a slight decline from 4.6K to 3.7K over the period.
